How poor would be the world of opera, how poor would be our music world if in New York 2 December 1923 year, four months after emigration to the United States Georges Kalogeropoulosa and his wife Evangelii Dimitriadou (Kalogeropoulos)-was not born their Daughter who was given the names of Anna Maria Sofia Cecilia. This number of names was to be satisfied by both of her parents, who, like Mary or Maryanne, have returned to her. For practical reasons, the parents changed the name „Kalogeropoulou” to „Callas”-the famous world of Maria Callas was born.
In the family home It was noted that the great talent is hidden in the little Maria: After the divorce of his parents and after leaving the mother to Athens, Maria began studying in musical directions – the mother believed that her daughter was destined for a great career. Full of complexes and dissatisfied with its appearance-Maria grew up in solitude. She was hardworking and quickly made progress in learning to learn at the Athens Conservatory of singing, opera history and piano playing.
Her first appearance, which took place when Maria was 15 years old, proved to be a great success and although many saw shortcomings in her voice, no one had doubts that worldly successes were only a matter of time.
He was persuaded to acquire the Italian scene and, having already established himself in the opera in Athens, went to the United States to start a great career there, but only a performance in Verona brought her a huge appreciation of the audience and criticism. A breakthrough moment in her career became a collaboration in Luchino Visconti. Making changes in his appearance and caring for his image became, as befits a primadonnę, attractive, elegant woman, recognized as one of the best-dressed women of the world. She became the famous operatic artist of the world, enthusiastically most in music scenes. Known as the „Primadonną of the Century”, „Primadonna Assoluta” and „La Divina” („The Divine”), she sang the parties including Lady Macbeth, Carmen, Toski, Violetta, Abigail, Brunhilda, Aidy, Isolde, Giocondy, norms and Lucia of Lammermooru.

The successes in professional life were not in hand with happiness in personal life: difficult childhood and youth, then life in the atmosphere of scandals and everlasting gossip. Her remarkable career did not last long: Some scholars believe her intensive work during her youth caused her early voice problems. At the age of 42 she was the last time she appeared on the opera scene goodbye the role of Toski in the audience. She died suddenly in Paris with 53 years, and her ashes, according to her will, were scattered over the Aegean Sea.

I have read two biographies of Maria Callas: one by Stelios Galatopoulosa „Primadonna assoluta” (a very decent item), and the other by Alfonso Signorini „too proud, too fragile” (this is a quasi biography, but reads very well) and I have to Admit that, although I appreciate Maria Callas as an artist, I cannot have her sympathy. I sympathize with her deeply and I feel sorry for her, but I can’t like her as a person. In life instances extreme emotions: from praise to hatred. Exactly ten years ago, I had incredible luck to take part in an unforgettable concert, which took place in tearing the great-the national Opera in Warsaw, and was devoted to the famous Greek Primadonnie, whose talent brought an undeniable contribution to the flourishing The Lyric Theatre of the twentieth century. During the concert, which took place under the aegis of the Greek Embassy in Warsaw, were made known arias from the repertoire of Maria Callas by two world-famous Greek soloists, Vassiliki Karayanni (soprano-coloratura) and Irene Karaianni (mezzo), with Accompaniment of Greek pianist Thanassisa Apostolopoulosa. In the evening as a special guest, Giovanna Lomazzi appeared, which presented the memories of the life of Maria Callas.
