My Places in Athens: laymen

Cycle: My Places in Athens

Ena Jewro, mono ENA JEWRO *)!!! – There is no way to hear this when it comes early afternoon and the time spent on the layman ends…
Laymen-local bazaars decorated in Athenian districts (but also in other Greek cities and towns) in a designated area of the day of the week and on the street, which at that time closes for traffic. Early in the morning on both sides of the street like mushrooms, there are stalls full of all goods, though they can not hide: they prevail with fruit and vegetables. The means of flowing in both directions the river of the people, it flows slowly, because you have to look at all, touch everything, sometimes taste… That's what laymen.

When you give up the stream of this river, you will notice that the advantage of the elderly, however, people (younger probably at work), which the layman take away metal (most often) Wózeczki. You can see that at this crossroads are decorated with fish angle, where the fish and seafood in abundance. In another part of the collection are cheaper clothes, shoes, bedding, towels and household items: Here you can find straganik with business chemistry or cosmetics. Walking away somewhere completely accidentally wypatrzymy a stall with candy, in several places-stall with spices * *) and others: with olives in at least a few, as not several varieties. From time to time we will feel different from other fragrances that will move our senses. And this is what the floating smoke… We have to look at: Suflaki!!! So, on small, portable hearths, bake Suflaki, which are eager to eat as the owners of stalls and buyers.

As soon as I'm in Athens Chadzam on the layman and it's not because I need to buy vegetables for kilos and don't know what to do with them. Chadzam mainly for the atmosphere, because the atmosphere in Warsaw in the Bazarkach is simply not. It's not that I don't buy anything there: No. I often buy fruit, but also vegetables, even though those in small quantities.

Laymen are held all year round, and I like the Autumn ones: September, October… Tomatoes are never so tasty to me as they bought it just then. Just stand at the stall, even with a headband on the eyes to feel this smell-the smell of tomato. Similarly, intensely fragrant watermelons, especially since Greeks rozkrajająed part of fruits and vegetables, so that everyone could taste how tasty the offered goods are.
Today, as a result of the lapse of years and tame what I am experiencing on the layman, some situations do not arouse my surprise, but initially, many, many years ago, I could not be amazed at how the Greeks want to stack as evenly potatoes or cucumbers. When photographed it as a phenomenon-they looked at me quite strangely not being able to understand why I am so delighted. "That's the usual potato! You do not have potatoes in Poland? "-I heard once.
In the old days I was able to stand at the tower stacked with cucumbers and ask them to take my pictures!

Indeed, the Rapture remained until today, because on my bazarku no one so the potatoes do not pile: maybe tomatoes or oranges are sometimes arranged in a cone, but potatoes in principle always lie in disorder in the boxes and so waiting for the buyer. A tower stacked with cucumbers I have not seen on my bazarku ever again! This arrangement is of course not something that decydowałoby here in Poland about whether cucumbers or potatoes buy or not, but in Athens the joy of my eyes is watching these pictures.

That's what I perceive as quite different if I think of a layman and my bazarku, it's a sellers approach to shooting. On my Bazarku shooting is not welcome. How I once said one of the ladies ' sellers: "Today everything can be found on the internet and there is no need to take pictures for friends living in Greece", while remaining deaf to the argument that it's quite different that another value for friends has Photo taken by me, where I describe in what circumstances I did and in what situation… Quite different on the layman: with the shooting I had no problems before! MORE: Greeks, seeing the camera, they can spread the octopus themselves, pick up a giant watermelon or…. Invite me to a common photograph, which still me-I do not hide-surprises. They pose to me for these pictures rozbawieni, smileed wide, even though they never watch these pictures after all!!! This difference in behavior is astonishing to me: some of my friends living in Athens say that this presented to me by the Greeks an extraordinary cordiality is caused by the fact that I am cudzoziemką, which, after all, before the sellers do not hide, Bo and no way. I talk with them, I say with my broken Greek, I'm still apologizing for the mistakes – I know that kaleczę this language, but nobody is pretending to me: the most important thing is, after all, that we can communicate with the layman.
"Kupiłabyś a fish, not just doing these pictures and doing…" – I once heard a layman. "And what I'd done with it here?" – I asked in a reply, adding: "I'm on vacation." "On holiday??? This is why walk here and you will not go to the Acropolis, or you will not go to the beach, not far, to Nea macros for example??? "-the surprise of the Greek Sięgnęło Zenit.
Ot, stereotypes: The tourist must always be on the Acropolis, the tourist must always to the beach. Tourist and walks in layman? Many do not fit in the head….

And there are tourists who, instead of the beach prefer to come to the layman, because only here the Greek is screaming Greek praising his best commodity, because only here arranged Równiutko bunches grapes look so different than in the boxes in any Market, because only here arranged in piles of vine leaves adorned with a slice of lemons encourage the purchase, although I do not know what they would do (Greek will do Dolmadakia, but I?), because only here sometimes the lettuce is bought in kilograms, not on the art, For nothing I get used to, and the price of the eggs is given as a couple (I met with such situations), because only here, finally, the intensity of the sellers cheers, but the sympathy of the Okazywanej buyer grows strongly closer to the end of the layman: everyone wants to Goods, especially where laymen take place on Saturdays.

Then the seller harvesting these remnants of the goods, zdemontują stalls, bury everything for cars, to spread this next working day in another district, and again from the morning begin to shy battle and lower the price for them closer to the end of the layman. Here will be a mess which little, but come the proper service and clean up. Then open the street for traffic-and so until the next week, when the street again will be closed, because the layman…

And I, walking between the stalls, in addition to the fruit, buy in the end tomatoes, cucumber, peppers, red onions (which I most often get for free: No one wants to sell one onion!), on the way wstąpię to the shop to buy feta, I'll return home in which I Stop and using access to oil, olive and oregano (and in every Greek house you can find) – I'll make a Greek salad (Choriatiki salata), which never tastes like under the Greek sky. Tasty!
